If there is one thing, I want you to walk away with this morning from what Paul teaches us in theses verses here in Ephesians is:

Imitation increases Illumination

The more I look like Jesus the more I shine for Him.

Ephesians 5:1-2

The way we increase illumination is through imitation.

The Greek word for light – fos – is used 7 times in the NT and it’s always in a position of light.

Ephesians 5:8

We were once in darkness, but through Christ we live in the light.

Five Keys for Imitating Jesus

  1. Takers become givers.
  • Grace, love, and salvation isn’t something we should hold just for ourselves.
  • We have taken, but now we need to freely give.
  1. Flee the night for the light.
  • Ephesians 5:8
  • Ephesians 5:13-14
  • Paul doesn’t say you were in darkness, he says you were
  1. The unwise must become wise.
  • Ephesians 5:15
  • One of the greatest ways to walk in wisdom is to ask yourself is this the wise thing to do.
  • In light of my past and current circumstances is this the wise thing to do?
  • You get wisdom by seeking it. If you want the answer, you’ll find it.
  1. Step out of procrastination into determination.
  • Ephesians 5:16
  • Listen, God wants you to walk in step with Him and not waste time.
  1. Empty people become full
  • It’s important to realize that none of this is possible apart from the power of the Spirit of God.
  • Ephesians 2:1-10
