A few things about the Trinity….
The Bible
proclaims the
truth of the
Holy Trinity, and the
church has
believed in the Trinity from the
beginning.
In the
Trinity, God
reveals Himself as
the Father,
the Son and
the Holy Spirit.
The doctrine of the Trinity is
foundational to the
Christian faith.
It’s
important for us to
understand what
God is like, how He relates to
us personally, and how we should
relate to Him daily.
The Trinity also causes us to ask some important questions:
- How can God be both one and three?
- If Jesus is God, why do the Gospels share where He prayed to God?
After the series,
my goal is to help you
understand the following:
- The oneness of God.
- The deity of three.
- Three-in-oneness.
The Bible
does not explicitly teach the
Trinitarian view of God, but the
teachings that
God is one and that
three persons are God clearly imply this view.
Christianity is the
only major religion that makes this claim about God.
Here is an important thing to remember….
- While we many never fully understand the doctrine of the Trinity, there are ways that can help us fully understand it.
The
doctrine of the Trinity is important because it is
concerned with
who God is, what
He is like, how
He works, and how
He is to be approached.
The
doctrine of the Trinity means there is
one God who
eternally exists as
three distinct Persons.
- The Father.
- The Son.
- The Holy Spirit.
- God is one in essence and three in person.
Three crucial truths:
- The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct Persons.
- Each Person is fully God.
- There is only one God.
Philippians 1:2 – speaks of the
Father as God.
Titus 2:13 – speaks of
Jesus as God.
Acts 5:3-4 – speaks of the
Holy Spirit as God.
John 3:16 – The Father
sent the Son into this
world.
Mark 1:10-11 – The Father
speaking and the Holy Spirit
descending from Heaven.
From all of this we can see that the
Father is not the Son, the
Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the
Holy Spirit is not the Father.
That
Jesus is God, but He is
not the Father or the
Holy Spirit.
That the
Holy Spirit is God, but He is
not the Father or
the Son.
Each Person is
fully God, but there in
only ONE God.
Scripture is
very clear that there is
only ONE God.
Is. 45:21
God
restated the
truth shared by Moses in
Deut. 4:35.
Those who challenged Jesus in
Mark 12:30-31 agree with Him in verse 32.
So, to
know God, means I must
study His Word that will
guide my
thoughts,
answer my
questions and
draw me
closer to
Him daily.
