January 10th, 2021 Message Notes:
What does it mean to
love God with your
whole heart?
The
greatest commandment Jesus has given, tells us to
love God with all our
heart, our
desire,
emotions, and
will.
We have to be the “
Church” who loves God with our
emotions, our
desire, and our
will.
Deuteronomy 6:5-9
(Here in the Moses is talking about the greatest of the commandments.)
This was also a prayer recited daily by the Jews for thousands of years to show their discipline of their spiritual devotion. (Shema Prayer) Prayed morning and night.
Psalm 28:1-9
(Here we see David crying out for God.)
(This leads us to Mark 12:28-31 where Jesus had been teaching in Parables to many and brings up God’s own words to answer the questions that the scribes, we’re asking Him.)
Let’s set the scene here in Mark 12:28-31
- Jesus had been teaching for some time.
- The Pharisees were always looking for Jesus to mess up or trying to ask Him a tricky question.
- Jesus always has an answer. He knows the answer to your question before you ask. He knows what you’re going to ask.
Mark 12:28-31
The Rabbi’s had determined there were a total of
613 commandments in the
Pentateuch.
The
Pentateuch - first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Pentateuch (Greek) means: “five books” or “five scrolls.”
- Hebrew meaning:
Torah - first five books in the Hebrew Bible.
Jesus tells us
to love God with the
heart.
-
Kardia, (Greek) meaning heart - the
center of life.
Giving
our heart to Christ is
more than
saying a prayer, it’s a
transplant of
new life.
It’s me
taking the
freedom from my
past,
present and
future and
giving my
all to God.
It’s me, understanding that
this life is no
longer about
me,
me,
me and all about giving
glory and
honor to God.
It’s me
fully accepting who God
made me because
I’m made in
His image.
Will you go
All In with your
heart?
